Guy in the Saticoy area of Ventura called me from the airport parking lot. He had just landed from a work trip, walked out to his 2011 Maxima, and nothing. No chirp, no unlock, dashboard dark through the glass. The Intelligent Key was completely dead.
Here is the part that made it worse: his emergency insert blade was zipped inside a laptop bag sitting in the trunk. And the trunk release needs a live fob signal. So he had a car, a key, and no way into either one.
He called the dealer first. Earliest appointment was two days out. Then he called a tow company and they wanted to haul it to that same dealer. Then he found me.
I got there in under an hour. Opened the door, sat in the driver seat, and plugged my IM608 II into the OBD port under the dash. Pulled the BCM and checked NATS registration. His key was still learned, slot one of four, no faults stored against the ID46 chip. The whole problem was a dead CR2032 killing the passive wake signal between the fob and the car's interior and door handle antennas.
Swapped the battery, cleared the one stored communication fault, and tested every button plus push-to-start. Handed him a spare CR2032 for the center console.
He drove home that morning. The whole thing took less time than he spent on hold with the dealer.
