Got the call from Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park area. Guy's 2023 Maxima wouldn't start after his battery died overnight. New battery installed, but now "No Key" on the dash.
He'd already tried the obvious stuff. Fresh CR2032 in the fob. Held it against the start button. Nothing. The buttons still locked and unlocked the doors fine, which told me the fob was alive. This was a BCM sync issue after the power loss.
I pulled up with my IM608 and J2534 interface ready for CONSULT-III access. Sure enough, B2799 stored in the BCM. The immobilizer had lost its handshake with the key after the battery swap. Common on these newer NATS-6 systems.
Connected through the OBD port, authenticated with my NASTF credentials, and ran the key registration procedure. The BCM needed to relearn all stored keys, not add new ones. About 8 minutes of module communication and security verification.
First crank, it fired right up. No new key needed, just the right diagnostic path. He mentioned the dealer wanted to tow it in and quoted a two-day wait. We handled it in his driveway for way less than their diagnostic fee alone.
