2019 Nissan Maxima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does programming take once you are at my car?

For a 2019 Maxima Intelligent Key, plan for about 20 to 30 minutes at the vehicle once I arrive. The registration process has a timed sequence built in that you cannot skip. If you still have one working key, adding a second is a little faster. All-keys-lost takes longer because the system has to clear the existing key memory before it can accept anything new, and there is additional verification the tool has to complete.

Q: Can you make a key faster than the dealer?

The programming time itself is similar no matter who is doing it. The Intelligent Key registration sequence takes what it takes. What we cut out is everything around the actual work: no appointment queue, no repair order processing, no waiting for a certified tech to come free, no parts department delay.

Q: My 2019 Maxima shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What is going on?

This comes up a lot in Maxima owner forums. A fresh battery fixes the issue most of the time, but not always. A few things can still cause a key-not-detected warning even with a good CR2032 sitting in the fob. First, check how the battery is seated. If it was pried out with a screwdriver instead of popped cleanly, the contact clip inside can get a slight bend that keeps the battery from making solid contact.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2019 Maxima. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2019 Maxima Intelligent Key has to be registered through the OBD port using professional diagnostic equipment. There is no ignition-cycle sequence or button combination that works on a push-button start vehicle like this. The fob you bought online is just hardware until it gets paired to your specific car. Bring the fob and I bring the tools.

2019 Nissan Maxima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Victoria Estates, I got a call from a woman who had just pulled her fob out of the washing machine. Full cycle. She already knew it was bad before she tried it.

She had a 2019 Maxima, push-button start, and that was her only key. The car was sitting in the driveway, locked, and she had places to be. She told me she called the dealer first. They said they could get her in Friday. It was Wednesday afternoon.

I was at her car in about 40 minutes. She watched from the front step while I connected to the OBD port and ran the programming sequence on my diagnostic tool. The process has a timed component built into the Intelligent Key registration, so you can't rush it. You just wait for the system to cycle through. It takes what it takes.

New fob registered, old fob erased from the system, emergency blade cut to the car. I walked every button with her standing there, including the door handles, before I called it done. Total time at her vehicle was right around 25 minutes.

She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and she didn't lose two days waiting for a service slot.

Nissan Maxima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Nissan key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Most Nissan dealer service departments wrap up by early evening on weekdays and go dark on Sundays. Lose your only Intelligent Key on a Saturday night in Victoria Estates and you are looking at Monday at the earliest, assuming you can even get a quick appointment slot. I work outside those hours. One call gets you on the schedule, often the same evening or the next morning.
