2006 Nissan Maxima REMOTE-HEAD-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy over in Peninsula Park in Oxnard had been wrestling his 2006 Maxima ignition for about three weeks. Wiggling the key side to side, pushing it in harder, yanking the steering wheel. He called a Nissan dealer and they quoted him a full ignition cylinder replacement with a new key and reprogramming. He was about to book it.
His buddy told him to try a locksmith first.
I met him at his place and checked the cylinder. The wafers were worn down, which is common on these sixth-gen Maximas with high mileage. The cylinder itself was fine. Before I touched anything mechanical, I connected my ACDP to the OBD port and pulled a backup of the NATS5 immobilizer data off the BCM, board number 284B1-9N01A on his trim. If something went sideways during the repair, I had the PIN and transponder registration data saved.
Then I decoded the lock, swapped out the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key to match the repaired cylinder. Programmed the new PCF7936 chip to NATS5, then paired the remote side of his CWTWB1U751 separately. I handed him the old wafers so he could see the flat spots where the brass had worn thin.
Ignition turns clean now. He kept his original cylinder, kept his original BCM, and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for parts that did not need replacing.
