2006 Nissan Maxima Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on a side street in South Winds, Oxnard, finishing up some notes from the previous job, when the call came in. Guy at a sporting goods store nearby, 2006 Nissan Maxima, ignition getting stiff and the remote had been acting up for weeks. He figured he needed a whole new ignition and probably a new key.
When I got there he showed me what he meant. The key was binding on the way in and he had to jiggle the steering wheel to get it to turn. Classic worn ignition wafer behavior, not a dead cylinder. I decoded the lock before touching anything and confirmed it was the wafers, not a mechanical failure deep in the column. Replaced the worn wafers, cut a fresh key blade matched to the repaired cylinder, and programmed the transponder and remote functions to the vehicle on site.
Then we tested everything. All four buttons. Remote range. Start. Lock. The key went in and out of the ignition like it was brand new.
He had already called the dealer before he called me. They quoted him a new cylinder, a new key, and a shop visit that was going to take most of a day. He saved a good chunk and got it done in the parking lot in under an hour. He kept the old wafers. I always show those to people when the wear is visible, because it answers the question better than I can.
