2003 Nissan Murano REMOTE-HEAD-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday night on Coast Village Road in Montecito, close to 10pm. A group had been at dinner and came out to a 2003 Nissan Murano that would not start. The remote buttons did nothing, and nobody in the group knew about the mechanical backup, the physical key blade hidden in the fob housing that turns the driver's door lock cylinder and lets you hold the dead fob against the start button to get a proximity read.
They figured the car was stuck until Monday. Called me just to ask if anything could even be done that late.
I was fifteen minutes out with Murano blanks already in the van. Their fob was the CWTWB1U751, three-button remote head key. Cracked it open on the hood. The CR1620 was completely flat. Swapped it, ran NATS5 registration through the OBD-II port using pin code pulled from the BCM, and the 4D60 chip handshake came back clean. Remote range returned immediately. Push start responded on the first press.
Tested lock, unlock, and panic across both fobs. Walked the proximity detection range around all four doors. Everything normal.
They drove home that night. A Nissan dealer would have meant a tow, waiting until Monday, and paying a good chunk more for the same result. When the blanks, chips, and tools are already on the truck, a Saturday night call gets the same outcome as a Tuesday morning appointment.
