Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Nissan Murano Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She texted me the VIN before I left my previous job. That alone told me everything I needed to prep on the drive over.

A Pilates instructor in Downtown Santa Barbara had a break between classes and used it wisely. She needed a spare fob for her 2009 Murano, had her original working key ready, had her ID on the counter, and sent me those 17 digits without me even asking. By the time I pulled into the lot, the blank was prepped and I knew exactly what I was walking into.

The Murano's Intelligent Key system on this generation requires diagnostic equipment to register a new fob into the vehicle. There's no button sequence, no ignition trick. The registration happens through the OBD port, the system reads the existing key, and the new fob gets enrolled alongside it. Because she had a working key present, I ran the add-a-key process rather than a full all-keys-lost reset, which is meaningfully faster. The blade for the emergency insert key was cut to match, tested in the door cylinder, and verified in the ignition.

I walked every function before I handed it over. All four buttons. Both door handles. The start button reading the fob at normal distance, not the "hold it close" fallback you see when signal is weak. Everything behaved the way it should.

From parking my van to her heading back inside for her next class, it was a clean job done in her parking lot. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just to get an appointment. That detail came up almost as an aside, because honestly the appointment logistics were already solved.
