Got called out to San Buenaventura State Beach parking lot. A nurse finishing her shift couldn't start her 2021 Murano. Push button just clicked, dash said "Key ID Incorrect."
She'd already done the YouTube fixes: new CR2032, holding the fob against the start button, even whacking it on her palm. Nothing. The remote still locked doors fine, which told me the RF side was good.
I plugged into the OBD port and pulled code P1614. Classic NATS registration dropout. The BCM had basically forgotten her key existed. Quick look at the VIN, confirmed it was a later 2021 build with the updated KR5TXN7 fob running the 285E3-6HE6A board.
The fix took about 20 minutes. Read the BCM pin through NATS, cleared the old registration, then re-enrolled her existing fob fresh. No cutting needed since the emergency blade was fine. Did a few test starts to make sure the handshake stuck.
She mentioned the dealer wanted her to flatbed it in, wait two days for their tech to look at it. Would've been a whole production. Instead, she made it to her kid's recital that evening.
