Over near the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, a smog check station called me about a 2006 Murano that another locksmith had already walked away from.
Here's what happened. The owner needed all keys replaced. The first tech started the job, but the car's 12V battery sagged mid-programming. Power dropped right in the middle of the security handshake between the BCM and the NATS5 module. That's the one scenario that can put the immobilizer into a hard fault state. The other tech packed up and left.
When I got there, the Murano was sitting with the hood up and the owner standing next to a smog tech who looked like he'd seen this before. I hooked my jump pack to the battery terminals first, got voltage stable above 12.6V, then connected my IM608 to the OBD port. Cleared the stored fault codes from the interrupted session. I had my ACDP in the van in case I needed to read the ECU directly through the board, but OBD recovery worked clean this time. Started a fresh programming sequence from zero. The new KBRTN001 fob, 3-button proximity, learned on the first attempt.
I walked the car through the full check: push-button start, proximity detection at all four doors, lock, unlock, panic. Then I showed the smog shop guys what voltage drop during programming actually looks like so they'd recognize it next time.
Job took about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal Murano key job. But the alternative was a flatbed to the dealer and a week-long wait for a fraction of what he paid me on the spot.
