2007 Nissan Murano
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long should a replacement key for the 2007 Murano last?

A correctly programmed fob should last as long as your original did. The programming itself doesn't degrade. What actually fails over time is usually the CR2032 running low, or the battery contacts inside the fob tray getting a thin layer of oxidation that breaks the connection. If your fob starts acting up a year or two in, open it up and clean the contact points before assuming the key is dying.

Q: What if my new key stops working a few weeks after you program it?

Call us. We stand behind the work. If the fob loses remote function, the car stops recognizing it for starting, or you get a key-not-detected warning after everything was working, we come back and sort it out. Worth knowing: on the 2007 Murano, that kind of delayed failure is sometimes a 12V battery issue, not a fob issue. The Intelligent Key module draws from the main battery to power the door handle request sensors.

Q: The door handles on my 2007 Murano stopped unlocking by touch. The fob buttons still work. What's going on?

This is a common complaint on the second-generation Murano. The touch-unlock feature relies on request antennas built into the door handles. When those antennas weaken or the wiring to them corrodes, the handle stops sensing the fob in your pocket even though the fob itself is fine. You'll notice it because the lock and unlock buttons on the fob still work at normal range. Start by checking whether it's one door or both.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2007 Murano. Can you still make a replacement?

Yes. All-keys-lost on this generation requires diagnostic equipment to reset the Intelligent Key system and register new fobs from scratch. The old keys get erased so they can't be used to start the car. It takes longer than a standard add-a-key job because of the reset sequence involved, but it's a routine call for us. We come to you in the Funk Zone or anywhere in Santa Barbara and handle it on site.

2007 Nissan Murano Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman working an event at one of the venues in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone. She had a 2007 Nissan Murano sitting in the loading area with a dead fob and a catering crew about to show up. The event was loading in under two hours and the car was in exactly the wrong spot.

She had already tried clicking the fob from every angle. Nothing. The door handles weren't responding to touch, the fob wasn't being recognized, and she had no idea the fob even had an emergency insert blade until I told her on the phone.

I was there in about 25 minutes. First thing I did was walk her through using the mechanical blade tucked inside the fob to get into the car manually. Then I popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2032 was sitting slightly cocked in the tray, just enough to break contact intermittently. Swapped in a fresh cell, seated it correctly, and the Intelligent Key warning on the dash cleared on its own once the system saw a stable signal.

I still connected through the OBD port to verify the fob was properly paired and check for anything else lurking. It was clean. Total time on site was around 20 minutes.

She pulled out of the loading zone with time to spare. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait, and a bill that would have made the event budget hurt. She got none of that.

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys for the 2007 Murano?▼

We use OEM-spec fobs and blanks that are verified to work with this generation of Nissan's Intelligent Key system. Aftermarket fobs for this year can be hit or miss. The electronics need to communicate correctly with the vehicle's Intelligent Key module during programming, and cheap blanks sometimes have frequency or circuit inconsistencies that cause pairing failures or short-range issues after the fact.
