Got a call from an event planner down near Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara. She had a catering van blocking the loading zone behind her and a 2007 Nissan Murano that would not start. The dash was flashing "Key ID Incorrect" and the push-button ignition was dead. Event load-in was two hours out. She sounded like someone watching a clock melt.
I was on site in about 25 minutes. Used my NSN14 Lishi to get the door open since the emergency key blade tucked inside the KBRTN001 fob only works the driver door and hers was jammed up from never being used. Plugged into the OBD port and pulled up the BCM. The fob's CR2032 was at 2.4 volts, which is basically a paper weight for a battery rated at 3 volts. Swapped it, reseated the board, and ran the registration procedure through the diagnostic port to clear the "No Key Detected" fault stored in the NATS module.
Total hands-on time was maybe 20 minutes. She tested it three times before she believed it. Then she moved the Murano out of the loading zone, catering van pulled in, and the whole bottleneck just dissolved.
She kept the old battery in her hand like evidence. I get it. Sometimes you need to see the thing that caused the problem.
