1998 Nissan Sentra MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Seabridge Marketplace in Oxnard, a delivery driver flagged me down after his key snapped inside the ignition of his 1998 Nissan Sentra. The blade broke clean at the shoulder. Half the key was in his hand, the other half jammed deep in the cylinder.
He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the ignition would need to be drilled out, a new cylinder installed, new keys cut. The whole deal. The driver asked me if there was another way.
I used a DAT17 Lishi pick to extract the broken blade fragment from the ignition without touching the wafer surfaces. Took about five minutes. Once the piece was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position for the exact cut depths. The Sentra's DA34 keyway is older and pretty forgiving to decode once you get clean access.
Cut a new blade from the decode right there on my mobile unit. No transponder on this year, so there was nothing to program. Key went in, turned smooth, engine fired.
His original ignition cylinder stayed in place. No drilling, no replacement parts, no tow to a shop. The lock works with the new key exactly like it did with the old one. He was back on the road in under half an hour.
The other locksmith's quote would have been way more than what he paid me for extraction and a decode. Same lock, same car, just a different approach.
