A young couple in the South Surfside area of Port Hueneme had just picked up a used 2008 Sentra from an overflow lot. Clean car, good price, one smart key. The lot told them to handle the spare on their own.
They figured it would be a quick hardware store thing. It is not. Every Sentra smart key since the B16 generation runs NATS5 (Nissan Anti-Theft System), and the CWTWBU735 fob carries a 46 chip (PCF7952) that has to talk to the BCM before the car will crank. No handshake, no start.
They called the Nissan dealer. The wait was over a week, and the quote made them go quiet on the phone. They found me online and asked if that dealer number was real. I told them it was.
I met them at the lot before they drove it home. Decoded the lock cylinder, matched a blank with the right profile, and used my programmer to register the new 46 chip through the OBD port on their BCM (part 284B2-ZE80C on most B16 Sentras). The NATS handshake went clean, both fobs tested on push-button start, and the doors responded from about 30 feet out.
They drove home with two working smart keys for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. The whole thing took maybe 40 minutes, most of that spent on the mechanical cut and the NATS registration countdown.
