2005 Nissan Sentra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2005 Nissan Sentra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There's a stretch of South Surfside in Port Hueneme where the streets are quiet in the morning and almost everyone's retired. I got a call from a woman there with a 2005 Nissan Sentra. She needed a spare key made and had already called the dealer to get a price. The number they gave her was enough to make her pause, and her neighbor told her to call me instead.

She met me in her driveway. The car ran fine, she had her one working key, and she just wanted a backup before something went wrong with the original. Smart thinking.

She watched the whole job from her front step. I pulled the information I needed from the vehicle, cut the new blade to match the lock, and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port with my equipment. The immobilizer registered the new key. Turn, start, done. I tested it twice before handing it over.

The part that stuck with me was what she said after. She'd assumed the "computer stuff" meant it had to be a dealer job. That's what they implied when she called. But a mobile locksmith with the right tools handles this on the street, in a driveway, in a parking lot. The dealer doesn't own the technology. I carry it.

Her spare was cut, programmed, and tested in about 25 minutes. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and she didn't have to arrange a ride or sit in a waiting room.
