Got a call from someone near the Ojai Post Office Tower who had one key left for a 2002 Sentra GXE and it was barely holding together. The plastic bow was cracked down the middle and held with electrical tape. She said she'd been nursing it for two years.

She was worried because the NATS light on the dash had started flickering on cold mornings. Not staying solid, just blinking a few times at startup before the car would finally catch. That is the immobilizer antenna ring getting a weak read off a chip that is physically shifting inside a broken key shell. One day that read fails completely and the car just cranks and won't fire.

I cut a fresh NSN14 blank on the HPC machine right on site, programmed a new PCF7936 chip through the OBD port using the existing working key for the registration sequence. The NATS system on these B15 Sentras will hold up to five key IDs, so adding one is quick. Whole thing took maybe fifteen minutes.

Before I left I tested it three times cold: key in, NATS light on for a second, light off, engine fires. That is the correct sequence. She kept the taped-up original as a backup in a drawer, which is the right move. A spare sitting at home is worth more than a single key on a cracked ring.
