2004 Nissan Sentra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2004 Nissan Sentra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Parked on J Street Corridor, a 2004 Sentra that hadn't moved in about four days. The owner had a key, it just wouldn't start the car. Turned over fine, then died immediately. Security light was doing the solid-on thing, not flashing, just sitting there.

She had looked it up online and convinced herself the immobilizer module was dead. That would have been a real problem. But I wanted to check the simpler stuff first before we went down that road.

The transponder chip inside the key head was cracked. You could barely see it without pulling the plastic cover off the key, but once you did, there it was. The chip had separated enough that it wasn't communicating with the antenna ring during start. The ring itself checked out fine.

Cut a new key blade to match her locks and ignition, enrolled the fresh transponder, and tested it three times cold before I packed up. Car started without hesitation every time.

She had already called the dealer. They wanted her to tow it in, run a full diagnostic, and the key itself was a separate line item on top of that. I did the whole job in her parking spot in about twenty minutes for a fraction of what they quoted before the tow was even added.
