A renter over at Village at the Park in Camarillo called me about his 2004 Corolla. He had one working key with the remote built into the head, and the lock button had stopped responding. Trunk and panic still worked. He figured the whole remote was shot.
I parked next to his car and popped the GQ43VT14T open on his hood. The CR2032 still had some charge, but the contact pad under the lock button had a hairline crack on the board. Tiny thing. You would miss it if you were not looking for it. The part number on his remote was 89742-06010, and the board inside was clean otherwise, no corrosion, no swelling from a leaking battery.
I had a replacement GQ43VT14T in the van. Used my TOY43 Lishi to decode his driver door lock so I could cut a fresh blade without needing his original as a template. The Lishi reads the wafer positions inside Toyota's standard keyway and gives me exact cuts. Programmed the new remote to his receiver module, tested all three buttons at multiple distances, and handed it over.
He had already called a dealer in Oxnard. They told him it would be a few days for the part and he would need to bring the car in. I was done in about 25 minutes, right there in his parking spot, for a fraction of what they quoted.
