2016 Toyota Corolla Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A parent up in the Indian Hills Ridge area of Simi Valley called me mid-afternoon. She was at one of the schools for a conference, tried to start her 2016 Corolla S, and got "Key not detected" on the instrument cluster. Held the fob right against the start button. Nothing. Her younger kid needed pickup at another school by 3pm and the dealer could not see her until the following week.
I got to the lot in about 35 minutes. Her HYQ14FBA was physically intact, no cracks, no water damage. I popped the fob open on the hood and the CR1632 was dead flat. But the bigger issue was the board inside, the small antenna coil looked fine, yet when I tested the fob output it was intermittent. One of the battery contact tabs had been bent during a previous swap and was barely touching.
Straightened the contact, seated a fresh CR1632, and the fob lit up on my frequency tester immediately. Then I connected my programmer to the OBD-II port and re-registered the fob through Toyota's key registration sequence. The 2016 H-chip system on these has a timed security handshake that takes a couple of minutes to cycle, but it is predictable.
Tested all four buttons, checked passive entry on both front doors, trunk release, and push-button start from cold. Everything responded. She pulled out of the lot at 2:41pm. Made her pickup.
