2019 Toyota Corolla
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 Toyota Corolla Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Strathearn called me on a Wednesday afternoon. He was parked inside his gated complex, push-button start showing a key-not-detected warning, and he had nowhere to go. The tow company he called first said they couldn't get past the gate without a resident escort, and escorting them meant walking out to the street and back, which he couldn't do with a bad knee.

So I came to him instead.

I drove in with a resident who was heading out, walked over to his Corolla in the guest lot with my bag, and got to work on site. His fob was the four-button Smart Key with the factory FCC ID. The key itself had been dropped at some point and the internal battery contact had a slight bend. The CR1632 was making just enough contact to show it wasn't completely dead, but not enough to give the car a reliable signal.

I straightened the contact, seated a fresh CR1632, and tested every button plus the push-button start and both door handles. All of it came back clean.

Then I walked him through what to watch for if it ever starts getting flaky again before a battery swap is due. He didn't need a full replacement at all. Just the right hands on the right problem, right there in the parking lot.

The dealer comparison came up on its own. He'd already called them. They wanted him to get the car towed in and couldn't see him until the following week. No tow, no wait, and he saved a good chunk by not going that route.
