2013 Toyota Corolla
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Simi Valley?

Call us and we'll give you a straight arrival window based on where in Simi Valley you are and what the schedule looks like. Madera and the surrounding area are well within our range. We're already mobile, so we're usually faster than arranging a tow to a dealer and waiting for an opening. Toyota dealers often can't fit a key job same-day, and some require you to leave the car.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

Usually yes. I carry key blanks, cutting equipment, and programming tools for Toyota vehicles in my service van. For the 2013 Corolla, as long as I have the right parts on hand and the schedule lines up, I can be at your location and have a key cut, programmed, and tested the same day. Dealers often need to order parts and schedule you out a day or more. Same-day is the whole point of being mobile.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2013 Corolla. Can I program it myself?

Not on the smart key setup. There's no button sequence or ignition-turn trick that registers a new proximity fob on this system. Programming requires a diagnostic tool connected to the vehicle. The fob you bought online isn't useless, it just needs a professional to pair it to your car. That's a pretty common situation and we can work with an aftermarket fob in most cases. Just bring it along when you call.

Q: My 2013 Corolla starts fine but the door handle touch unlock stopped working. Is the fob the problem?

Probably not the fob. If the car starts and the other fob buttons respond normally, the key itself is being recognized. Touch unlock is handled by sensors in the door handle, and those sensors are a known weak point on these doors over time, especially on the driver side where they take the most use. Dirt, oxidation, or moisture around the handle area can kill the touch function without affecting anything else. Wipe the handle down and retest.

2013 Toyota Corolla Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A Madera resident called me on a weekday afternoon. She'd been sitting in a parking lot off Madera Road for about forty minutes before she found my number. The fob had been acting up for a week, intermittent stuff, door handle touch unlock working sometimes and not others. Then that morning it just stopped. Car wouldn't acknowledge the fob at all, and she didn't have a backup key.

I pulled up and she handed me the fob. The case had some wear on it, the kind you get when it rides loose in a bag for a year. I opened it on my tailgate and the CR1632 inside was original. The contacts had a faint film on them and one clip had just enough flex that the battery wasn't sitting flush.

Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR1632 with the clips holding it correctly, closed the fob back up. The car saw it on the first test.

We walked both door handles anyway. Touch unlock on both sides, lock button on the handle, every button on the fob, confirmed the ignition cycle. All of it worked.

She asked what she owed me. I told her to call me when she needed a real replacement, because that fob wasn't going to last forever. The dealer had quoted her a full key replacement when she'd called earlier that day. She'd saved a good chunk just by having someone look at what was actually wrong first.

How long does a 2013 Toyota Corolla key replacement take?▼

Depends on the job. If you have a working key and just need a spare added, that's typically the faster end of the range, often under thirty minutes on site. If you've lost every key, an all-keys-lost job takes longer because the system goes through a full reset and re-registration sequence with a timed cycle built in. Plan for thirty to forty-five minutes in that case, sometimes a little more depending on connection time with the vehicle.
