Out in Camarillo Heights, a woman called about her 2006 Corolla. She said the key fob "just stopped working" and she had been manually unlocking the door for two weeks. She assumed the whole key was dead.

I swapped the electronics into a new housing, seated a fresh CR2032 correctly, re-ran the remote functions, and verified the lock, unlock, and third button all had range past the end of the driveway. Then I confirmed the car started normally and the security indicator was behaving.
The dealer had quoted her a full replacement. She didn't need a full replacement. She needed a shell and a battery, done on site, in about twenty minutes. That's the kind of thing that gets missed when the first answer is always "we'll order you a new one."
