Out in the Somis area of Camarillo, a Corolla owner called me about a cracked remote. She said the buttons barely worked and the shell was split along the seam near the key ring hole.
She had already been to the dealer. They quoted her for a full replacement, new key, new programming, the whole package. What they did not mention is that the 4D-67 transponder chip and the circuit board inside her GQ43VT14T were working fine. She just needed a new shell and fresh rubber button pad.
I met her in her cul-de-sac. Pulled the fob apart on her mailbox ledge where she could watch. Same cracking pattern I see on hundreds of these Toyota remotes. The plastic gets brittle right at the split line, and the Lock button wears through the rubber first because people press it the hardest. The internals were clean.
I moved the chip and board into a new aftermarket shell, part number 89742-06010 compatible, set a fresh CR2032, then used my TOY43AT Lishi to decode her door lock and verify the blade was still cutting true before swapping it into the new housing. Tested Lock, Unlock, Panic, then started the car twice to confirm the immobilizer handshake.
The whole thing took about twenty minutes. She kept looking at the new fob like she was waiting for it to fall apart too. It won't. And it cost a fraction of what the dealer wanted for parts she never needed.
