2012 Toyota Corolla Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in the Wood Ranch neighborhood in Simi Valley called me on a Saturday because his 2012 Corolla would not respond to the fob at all. No door unlock, no push-button start, nothing. He had already been on the phone with the Toyota dealer and they told him earliest appointment was Tuesday, plus he would need a tow since the car would not start.
His Corolla was parked inside a gated complex. The tow company wanted a resident escort through the gate, and he could not drive out to meet them because, well, no working key. Classic loop.
I drove out, got through the gate behind him on foot after he walked down, and set up at his car in guest parking. Pulled out my VVDI2 and connected through the OBD-II port. The 2012 Corolla Smart Key system uses Toyota's IMMO with a 128-bit transponder tied to the smart key ECU, board number 89990-02011 on these. I registered a new HYQ14AAB fob, programmed the proximity function so all four buttons worked, then cut the TOY48 emergency insert blade by decoding his door lock.
Tested every function: walk-up unlock on both front handles, push-button start, trunk release, lock from the handle button. All good.
He stood there watching me pack up and said something I hear a lot: "That's it?" Yeah. That's it. His car never left the parking spot. No tow, no Tuesday appointment, no sitting in a dealer lobby for two hours. Done on the spot for a fraction of what they quoted him.
