A guy in the Springville neighborhood, Camarillo, had just picked up a 2005 Toyota Corolla off Craigslist. Decent car, fair price, one key. The seller handed him a single blade key with a worn rubber button pad and said to get a spare on his own.
He tried the hardware store first. They could cut the TOY43 blade profile, but that is only half the job. The 2005 Corolla uses a Texas Instruments 4C transponder chip inside the key head that has to talk to the immobilizer amplifier behind the ignition ring. Without that handshake, the engine cranks and dies. A bare metal copy just sits there and does nothing.
He called the dealer. They quoted him a wait of about a week and a price that made him keep looking. Then he called me.
I met him at the car and used my VVDI2 to clone the 4C chip data from his original key onto a fresh TPX4 blank. The VVDI2 reads the transponder value from the working key and writes it to the new chip so the immobilizer accepts it without a full ECU reset. I cut the TOY43 blade on my Condor, then paired the GQ43VT14T remote through OBD. Three buttons: lock, unlock, panic. All responded on first press.
He drove off with two working keys for a fraction of what the dealer quoted for one. That spare also means if he ever loses a key down the road, the next job is an add-a-key instead of all-keys-lost, which saves him a good chunk.
