2000 Cadillac Escalade
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 2000 Escalade?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct key blank for your truck and give you a price before I leave. When I arrive, I either cut to the factory key code on file or decode the lock directly if the original is worn or unavailable. For a mechanical key like this one, the cut is the job. I test it in the door and the ignition before I leave.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you show up?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, registration or title, whichever you have on hand. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to verify everything matches before I cut anything. That is it. Same documentation a dealer would want, but verified on site in a couple minutes instead of sending you home to find paperwork.

Q: My 2000 Escalade ignition feels stiff and the key is hard to turn. Do I need a new ignition cylinder?

Not necessarily. These trucks are old enough now that the ignition wafers wear at different rates. When that happens, a key cut to the original factory code can start dragging because the code no longer matches what the worn cylinder is reading. Before you replace the cylinder, have the lock decoded. If the wafers have shifted, a key recut to the current bitting of the lock will often turn freely again.

Q: I lost the only key to my 2000 Escalade. Can you still make one without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a mechanical key vehicle is a standard job. I decode the lock directly, read the cuts off the cylinder, and cut a new key to match. No original needed.

2000 Cadillac Escalade Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone over in the East End of Ojai. He had one key left for his 2000 Escalade and it was starting to look rough, worn down at the tip, blade thinning out. He wanted a spare cut before it gave out entirely and left him stuck.

When I got there and looked at the original, I was glad he called when he did. The key was worn enough that I did not trust cutting directly from the factory code. I decoded the lock instead, read what the cylinder was actually seeing, and cut to that. Took a few extra minutes but it meant the new key turned cleanly the first try.

He mentioned he had priced it around. A local dealer wanted to pull the car in, look up the key code on file, and have him wait. The quote was not outrageous but it was not low either, and he would have had to leave the truck there for a couple hours on a weekday morning.

I was done at his driveway in about twenty minutes. He saved a good chunk and did not have to go anywhere.

Cadillac Escalade Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2000 Cadillac Escalade somewhere for a replacement key?▼

No. I come to wherever the truck is. Driveway, parking lot, job site in East End, Ojai, it does not matter. The 2000 Escalade takes a mechanical key, so there is no programming equipment to haul in or diagnostic port to connect to. Everything I need fits in the van. You stay with your vehicle the whole time.
