I got a call from a couple over in Windsor North/River Ridge earlier this year. Retired, home most days, one Escalade sitting in the driveway and zero spare keys. The fob they had was the factory unit with the dealer part number on the sticker inside, so I matched the replacement accordingly. Cut the emergency blade to fit the door cylinder, seated the CR2032, walked the car: lock, unlock, proximity entry on each door handle, start. Everything responded.
The woman watched from the porch the whole time. When I showed her husband how to check the battery on the fob, he said he didn't even know there was a battery in it. That's usually how it goes.
