2018 Cadillac Escalade Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He called me from the valet lane at the Santa Barbara Airport on a Tuesday afternoon. Just got in from a business trip, walked out to his 2018 Cadillac Escalade, and the fob was completely dead.

No response. The car wouldn't wake up to his approach, the door handles weren't reading him, and the backup start method wasn't getting a response from the key either. His luggage was locked inside. The dealer told him Thursday was the earliest they could see him.

He found me and asked if I could get to the airport area. I was there in under 40 minutes.

I got the door open with the mechanical key blade in the fob, then hooked into the diagnostic port and pulled the system status. His fobs were still registered to the vehicle -- nothing had been wiped. What had happened was the battery had gone flat enough to drop communication, and the system had logged a fault from it. CR2032 was at the bottom of its life.

New battery, contact points cleaned, fault cleared. I walked the whole fob: lock, unlock, every button, handle touch on both front doors. Everything came back.

He asked me what the dealer would have charged to do the same thing. I told him what I charge for a service call. He got quiet for a second, then said the dealer had quoted him something that made the tow and the two-day wait look like the smaller problem. He drove home that afternoon with the AC already cold before he hit Las Positas.
