2012 Cadillac Escalade Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a paint shop near Gaviota State Park in Santa Barbara. A customer's 2012 Escalade had gone in for a full respray, and somewhere in the process the only working key went missing. The shop called another locksmith first. That guy showed up, attempted to program a new key, got a BCM fault, and left.
By the time I got there, the truck was completely locked out of programming. The body control module, part number 20939745 on these third-gen Escalades, was stuck in a security fault state from the failed attempt. Push-to-start was dead. The theft deterrent light just sat there, solid.
I pulled the BCM and connected my ACDP bench tool to the EEPROM. Read the data, cleared the locked fault, and rebuilt the key registration from scratch. The Escalade runs GM's PK3+ immobilizer with an ID46 transponder chip, so once the module was clean, pairing the new key was textbook. System accepted it on the first attempt.
Walked the paint shop guys through what happened so they would know the signs if a future customer's truck ended up the same way. The whole job ran about 90 minutes, which is longer than a normal key-make, but that is what BCM recovery takes. The alternative was a flatbed to the Cadillac dealer and a multi-day wait for a fraction of that hassle.
