Most dealer service departments close in the late afternoon and have limited or no weekend availability. If your key fails on a Saturday night or a holiday, you are looking at waiting until the next business day at minimum before the dealer can even schedule you.

Cadillac roadside assistance is listed as available around the clock, but their contractors can unlock a door in an emergency. They cannot make you a new key or register a replacement fob on the spot. That requires equipment and credentials a roadside truck does not carry.

I work outside dealer hours. Hope Ranch, Santa Barbara, Sunday morning, whatever. If you are down to one fob or no fob on a 2017 Escalade, that is not a situation that should wait until Monday.

At a dealer, you schedule an appointment, drop the vehicle, wait for a certified tech to free up, wait for parts to be pulled, and then sit in a waiting room while the actual hands-on work happens. The hands-on portion for a smart key enrollment is not long. The overhead around it is what consumes your day.

I only have one fob left for my 2017 Escalade. Do I need to do anything about that now, or can it wait?

My 2017 Escalade shows a key-not-detected warning but my fob is right in my hand. What is actually happening?

Usually one of three things.

Battery first. The CR2032 in the fob can test fine on a basic meter but still drop under load at the moment the vehicle is trying to read it. Swap in a fresh battery and confirm the contact clip is seating the battery firmly, not just touching it.

If a new battery does not resolve it, the fob itself may have taken damage. Owners report that dropping these fobs or getting moisture inside can knock out the signal without any visible damage to the case.

Third possibility: the vehicle's antenna that reads the fob proximity signal. If the warning is intermittent and switches between working and not working without the fob changing, the antenna circuit is worth checking. That is a vehicle-side diagnosis, not a fob problem.

Start with the battery. It solves this more often than anything else.
