1997 Chevrolet Astro
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Chevrolet Astro Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy over in Strathearn on a Saturday afternoon. He had his 1997 Astro loaded up for a weekend run and his key snapped off right in the door lock.

Half the blade was inside the cylinder, and he had already tried the obvious thing: a pair of needle-nose pliers that made it worse. By the time he called me, he was standing in his driveway feeling like the whole day was done.

I pulled up in my van with the extraction tools and got to work on the door lock. The broken fragment came out clean without touching the wafers. Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded the lock right there on the spot, cut a replacement key to match, and tested it in both the door and the ignition.

He turned the key and the engine came up on the first try. He stood there for a second like he expected something else to happen, then just laughed.

The whole visit from the time I arrived was under forty minutes. He mentioned he had called the dealer first out of habit. They told him to tow it in and plan for the next available appointment. That was not the kind of weekend he had in mind.
