Guy was at the taco spot near Del Sol Park in Oxnard and his backpack disappeared off the booth while he was at the counter. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. He borrowed the cashier's phone and called the police first, then his girlfriend, then me.

His 2004 Chevrolet Astro was sitting in the lot with zero keys. His girlfriend called the dealer and they said they could order a key but it would be three to five business days, the van would need to be towed in, and they recommended rekeying the locks since the stolen key could still open the doors. The wait plus the tow plus the labor added up to a number that made his girlfriend repeat it twice.

I got there that evening. The Astro uses a standard GM 10-cut B102 keyway with Passlock II security built into the ignition lock cylinder. No transponder in the key blank itself. I decoded the lock wafers, cut a fresh B102 key on site, then ran the Passlock relearn through the BCM so the van would accept the new key's resistive value. The whole relearn cycle takes about 10 minutes per pass, three passes, roughly 30 minutes of the ignition sitting in the ON position while the SECURITY light cycles off.

He had two working keys before the police even called back. The stolen key can still physically fit the doors, but I rekeyed the door cylinders too so it would not get in. He drove home that night instead of waiting out a week.
