2001 Chevrolet Astro Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A renter over in Wilson called me after losing his only fob. He still had his metal ignition key, so the van started fine, but he'd gotten used to locking up remotely and he parked outside. He called the dealer first. They quoted him a number he wasn't expecting and told him to come in during service hours.
He found me instead.
I pulled up to his apartment complex on a Tuesday afternoon. The van was sitting in the lot, nothing dramatic, just a guy who needed a working fob again. I verified ownership, pulled the VIN, confirmed the correct fob for the vehicle, and got to work. The factory fob for the 2001 Astro is a four-button unit running a CR2032, and the programming on these early-2000s GM remotes can be done without the dealer's diagnostic bay if you know the steps.
The part that took the longest was finding a clean spot on his bumper to set my bag down without it sliding.
Once I paired the fob and ran through every button to confirm the van was responding, he asked if I needed him to sign anything. I handed him the fob and showed him the CR2032 sitting in the tray -- still had a good read, so I left it in. Everything worked. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and he didn't have to figure out a tow or burn a half day in a waiting room.
