Q: Can you delete a lost or stolen smart key from my Spark so it can't start the car?

Yes. The all-keys-lost procedure wipes every previously enrolled key from the system. Only the keys physically present and programmed during that session get registered. Any fob that was lost or stolen comes out of that process completely dead to the car. It won't start the vehicle, period. One thing worth adding: if the lost key had the emergency blade inside, that blade still physically fits the door lock cylinder.

Q: Does my 2019 Spark smart key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small release on the fob housing. Press it and the metal blade slides out. That blade fits the driver door lock cylinder, which is how you get into the car mechanically if the fob battery is completely dead or the 12-volt is down and the door handles aren't responding. The blade has to be cut to match your specific locks. A replacement fob that arrives from an online seller comes with an uncut blade.

Q: I bought a replacement fob for my 2019 Spark online. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2019 Spark smart key system does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. There's no ignition-turn trick, no button combination, nothing like that. Programming requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to communicate with the vehicle's security system and enroll the new fob. The fob you bought online is the correct starting point, you just still need a locksmith or dealer with the right equipment to finish the job.

Q: My 2019 Spark key fob works fine close up but the range has gotten really short. What's going on?

Almost always the battery. CR2032 cells in these fobs can drop voltage gradually, and the first thing to go is range. You'll notice you have to be practically next to the car before the locks respond, even though the fob still technically works. Swap the battery first. When you open the fob, check that the new CR2032 sits flat and the contact clips are snug against it.

Got a call from a guy up in Santa Susana Knolls, one of those streets that winds up toward the hills off Kuehner. He had a 2019 Spark that would crank, catch for about two seconds, and then die.
