Got a call from a guy down in the Pierpont neighborhood in Ventura. He had a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan parked near the beach and the remote wouldn't unlock it. No chirp, no flash, nothing. He'd been pressing the button for five minutes standing in the wind.

I got to Pierpont and popped the door for him. Pulled the GQ43VT17T remote apart right there on the hood. The CR2016 was completely flat. Not surprising on these, since the old single-circuit board in the 04686481 housing draws a tiny amount even sitting idle, and if the remote's been in a drawer for a while, the battery just drains out.
New CR2016 in, contacts clean, tested all three buttons. Lock, unlock, panic. All responded on the first press. The van's Sentry Key transponder in the ignition key was fine the whole time, so the engine started like normal. He just couldn't get the doors open remotely.
He stood there watching me snap the remote back together and said "that's it?" Pretty quietly, like he expected something worse. Whole thing took less time than he spent on hold with the dealer.
