A tattoo artist near West Beach in Santa Barbara called me about his 2017 Grand Caravan. The FOBIK shell had cracked right across the button face and was barely holding together with a rubber band.
He had already been to the dealer. They quoted him a full replacement, cut and programmed, and told him the cracked one was done. What they skipped over is that the FOBIK's internal board, the one stamped with the Hitag2 transponder circuit, was perfectly fine. The crack was cosmetic. The electronics were healthy.
I met him in his apartment breezeway with a replacement shell and my Y159 Lishi. Decoded his door lock cylinder for an exact blade cut, then transferred the board and battery clip assembly from his cracked housing into the fresh shell. His fob's FCC ID was IYZ-C01C, part number 05026590AI. Same button layout, same material as the factory housing.
The part that matters: I walked every button. Lock, unlock, hatch, both sliding doors, remote start, panic. Checked wireless range from about 30 feet out. Then verified the blade seated and turned clean in the ignition.
He stood there watching the whole thing from his doorstep, arms crossed, shaking his head a little when the fob worked the first try. Not angry. Just that look people get when they realize what the dealer was about to charge them for parts that were never broken.
He paid a fraction of what they wanted. The chip and board did all the talking.
