Guy was at a bar in Fillmore, near Two Rivers Park, winding down after his shift. He is an off-duty firefighter. His jacket disappeared off the back of the stool. Keys, wallet, badge, everything.
He borrowed the bartender's phone. Called the police first, then his wife, then me.
His 2001 Dodge Viper was sitting in the lot with zero keys. His wife called the dealer and got the full runaround: order a new key blank, tow the car in, reprogram the SKIM module, rekey the doors and ignition since whoever took the key could still get in. Multi-day wait.
I got there that night. All-keys-lost after a theft is a different animal than cutting a spare. I need to wipe the SKIM so the stolen key is dead to the car. I pulled the SKIM data through the diagnostic port using my IM608, erased every stored transponder ID, and started fresh. Cut two new Sentry Key blanks to the lock code, programmed both transponders to the SKIM, and confirmed the PCM accepted the new key IDs.
He turned it over himself right there in the lot. The Sentry Key light on the dash cycled once and went out, which is exactly what you want to see. He drove home before last call.
The stolen key is just a piece of metal now. It will turn the ignition, but the engine will not fire.
