Got a call from a guy near the Fillmore and Western Railway who had a 2007 Viper SRT-10 sitting dead in a gravel lot. He bought the car used a couple years back with one key. Never got a spare. That single key finally cracked along the plastic head, and the transponder chip housing split when he tried to wrestle it into the ignition. The blade went in crooked, jammed halfway, and snapped. So now he had half a key stuck in the cylinder and the other half in his hand.
I drove out and started with the blade fragment. Extracted it from the ignition without damaging the wafers. The transponder chip inside the cracked head was still intact, which was the break he needed.
I used my VVDI2 to read the chip data straight from the broken key. Because the original transponder was still readable, I could clone it to new keys without running a full all-keys-lost procedure through the SKIM. Decoded the lock, cut two fresh mechanical keys on site, and seated the cloned chips.
Both keys started the car clean. No crank-and-die, no security light. He sat in the driver's seat for a second and just held both keys in his hand like he was making sure they were real.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes. Having that broken key with the chip still alive saved him real time and money compared to a full reset.
