2013 Dodge Viper
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a locksmith cheaper than the Dodge dealer for a Viper key?

Yes, and on a vehicle like this the gap is wide. Dealers treat low-volume cars as specialty work and price accordingly. They also typically require the car to be on their lot, which means a flatbed tow if you're all-keys-lost. By the time you add the tow, the key, and the labor, you're looking at a number that hurts. A mobile locksmith comes to you, cuts the key on site, and you're done. Way less, no tow, same day.

Q: Does the price include cutting? Is there anything extra?

Yes, cutting is included. The 2013 Viper key is a mechanical blade, so the whole job is the blank and the cut. There's no programming fee, no diagnostic fee, no separate charge for a chip that isn't part of this key system. One number covers everything. Dealers often itemize the blank, the cutting, and any shop fees as separate line items, which is how a simple key job gets expensive fast.

Q: I'm all-keys-lost on my 2013 Viper. Can a key still be made without the original?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a mechanical key vehicle is a standard job. I pull the key code from the VIN or decode the lock directly, then cut a new blade to match. No original needed. Bring your proof of ownership and a valid ID, I verify before I cut anything, and then you're back in business. The Viper's door lock and ignition cylinder can both be decoded on site if the VIN route hits a dead end for any reason.

Q: My 2013 Viper key turns hard in the ignition. Do I need a new key or is something else going on?

Could be a few things. A worn key blade that's been copied one too many times can cause this, especially if a previous cut was slightly off. Steering column lock binding is also common on these when the wheel is under load at the moment you shut the car off. Try taking tension off the wheel while you turn the key.

2013 Dodge Viper Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Cathedral Oaks called me on a Saturday afternoon. He'd lost his only key to his 2013 Viper somewhere at the house and had already pulled apart the garage twice. His words were "I have a $90,000 car sitting in my driveway and I can't go anywhere."

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to have it towed in on Monday.

I asked him to pull up the VIN from his registration and text it to me. He had it in about two minutes. I used that to pull the key code, prepped the correct blank on the way over, and cut it in the driveway while he watched.

He tried it in the door. Then the ignition. Then just stood there for a second like he was expecting more steps.

There weren't any. That was it. He drove it that same afternoon.

The dealer route would have meant a tow, a two-day wait minimum, and a bill that would have made the key cost more than most people's car payment. He didn't need any of that.

Dodge Viper Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2013 Dodge Viper key replacement cost?▼

Call for the exact number, but it's a fraction of what the dealer wants. The 2013 Viper uses a mechanical key, so the job is cutting the blade to your vehicle. There's no programming fee stacked on top, no separate labor line for syncing a fob. One price, done at your location in Cathedral Oaks or wherever the car is sitting.
