2016 Dodge Viper
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than going to a Dodge dealer for this car?

On a low-production specialty vehicle like the Viper, dealers can charge a premium just because parts movement is slow and technician familiarity is limited. Mobile locksmiths work on the key itself, not the car's powertrain, so the specialty-vehicle markup doesn't follow the same logic. You're paying for a cut metal blade, not a dealer-exclusive procedure. The savings over the dealer route are real, and you don't lose a day dropping the car off.

Q: Does your price cover everything, or do you charge separately for cutting and service?

One price. That includes the blank, the cut, and coming to you in Old Town Goleta or anywhere else in the area. Dealers on cars like this will often list the key blank, the cut, and the service call as three separate charges. I don't do that.

Q: The emergency blade on my Viper fob is stiff and hard to pull out. Is that a problem?

Pretty common on cars where the blade almost never gets used. The release mechanism on the fob can get stiff from years of sitting in one position, and if there's any corrosion on the blade channel it gets worse. Try working the blade in and out a few times and see if it loosens up. If it stays stiff or won't seat fully in the lock, that's worth addressing before the battery dies and you actually need it.

Q: I only have one key for my 2016 Viper. Can a spare be made from the existing key?

Yes, and doing it while you still have a working key is the right call. When I have an original to work from, the job is faster and simpler. All-keys-lost on a low-volume vehicle like this takes longer and costs more. If you're in the Goleta area, reach out before that one key becomes the problem.

2016 Dodge Viper Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from Old Town Goleta on a weekday afternoon. The guy owned a 2016 Viper and had one key to his name.

He'd been meaning to get a spare cut since he bought the car a couple years back, kept putting it off the way everyone does. Then he tried to use the emergency blade to unlock the door after the fob battery went dead, and the blade snapped partway into the lock cylinder. One piece in his hand, one piece in the door.

He was calm about it, which is not always how that call goes.

I got there within the hour. The fragment wasn't deep, so I extracted it without pulling the cylinder. Once the lock was clear, I decoded it and cut a fresh blade from the reading. Clean fit, tested it in the door and the ignition, no issues.

He had a working key in about 35 minutes. He asked about a spare before I packed up, which felt like good timing. We handled that too.

The dealer conversation never really came up, but he mentioned he'd been quoted a significant wait just to get an appointment there. Same-day, on-site, done before dinner.

Dodge Viper Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2016 Dodge Viper emergency key replacement cost?▼

Call for the exact number because pricing depends on the job, but it will be a fraction of what the dealer charges. Dealers on low-volume specialty vehicles tend to build the invoice out of several separate line items and the total adds up fast. With me you get one price that covers the blank, the cut, and mobile service to your location in Goleta. No separate line for labor, no separate line for the blade.
