Got a call from a guy out in the Old Town Goleta area who had a 2015 Viper sitting in his driveway with zero working keys. He had bought the car secondhand with one key, and that key finally gave up. The blade was worn down, transponder still worked intermittently, but the cuts were so rounded off that the wafers barely caught anymore. He had already called the nearest Dodge dealer. I grabbed my Lishi Y170 and decoded the driver's door cylinder on site. Every wafer position read clean. No prior drilling, no prior damage, just a well-maintained lock on a low-mileage car. Cut a fresh Y170 blank to the decoded depths and moved to the transponder side.
The Viper's SKIM lives inside the instrument cluster on these. I connected through OBD, ran the all-keys-lost procedure, and wrote the new transponder to the system. Engine turned over on the first try. Then I cycled the key a few more times, let the SKIM relearn settle, and confirmed no security light staying on.
He stood there watching the whole time. At one point he said he was half expecting me to tell him the cluster had to come out. It didn't. Clean decode, clean program, and his car looked exactly the same as before I showed up.
