A tattoo artist out near Fillmore Fish Hatchery in Fillmore called about his 2004 Viper. The plastic shell on his remote had split right across the button face, cracked wide enough that the circuit board was almost falling out. He'd been holding it together with a rubber band for two weeks.

After the swap I tested all four buttons at range, verified the transponder was still communicating with the SKIM module by starting the engine twice, and cut a fresh blade off the decode. The board and chip are the parts that matter. The shell is just plastic.
He watched the whole thing from his breezeway. When the engine turned over clean on the first try he just nodded and said, "That's it?" That was it. One visit, done on site, for a fraction of what they wanted at the dealer.
