A college senior near the Ojai Trolley route called the dealer first. They told him to tow the car in and quoted him a number that made him start Googling alternatives. He had dropped his only key on the concrete at his apartment carport and the plastic housing cracked right along the seam. The transponder chip was still in there, but barely held in place by a sliver of black plastic.

He figured that was just what replacing a Honda key cost. I told him it was not even close.

Drove out to his carport. Used my HON66 Lishi to pick the driver door, then decoded the cuts right off the wafer lock cylinder. That is one thing I like about these CG Accords. The HON66 reads clean on them because the lock does not have much wear at 25 years if the owner only ever used one key.

Cut the new HD106-PT blank, seated a T5 glass chip, and programmed it through the OBD port using the Honda immobilizer handshake. The whole thing took about 40 minutes, most of that just the drive out and the pick-and-decode.

I showed him the cracked housing on the old key so he could see the tiny glass transponder tube sitting loose inside. One more drop and that chip would have shattered.

He saved a good chunk versus the dealer and never left his parking spot.
