Got called to Ventura Promenade where a guy with a 2023 Accord was stuck in the parking garage. His KR5TP-4 smart key worked fine all week, then nothing.
"Keyless Access System Problem" on the dash. Door handles wouldn't respond to touch. Had to use the emergency blade just to get in. He tried holding the fob near the start button like his old Civic, but this generation wants the Honda logo pressed right against it.
I checked the CR2032 first. Still had voltage but these Hitachi chips are picky about battery levels. Fresh cell, tested all five buttons including that double-press panic they hide in the manual. Remote start came back, door handles started sensing touch again, and the push-start recognized the fob from normal distance.
Then I showed him the backup method for next time. Logo side of the fob, flat against the start button, foot on brake. The car will read the chip through near-field even with a completely dead battery.
He mentioned the dealer quoted him three days wait for programming. We were done in twenty minutes right there in level two of the garage. Just needed someone who stocks CR2032s and knows these systems.
