Over in Los Robles Trail in Thousand Oaks, a night school student had been wrestling with his 2005 Honda Accord ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, shoving it in, waiting a full minute before it would turn. Some nights it worked on the first try. Other nights he sat in the community college lot trying the same motion over and over, late for class.
The dealer told him the whole ignition cylinder assembly needed replacing, new key, reprogramming, the works. He was about to book it when a classmate told him to call a locksmith first.
I looked at the cylinder and knew right away. The wafers inside were worn down, not the whole unit. Common on seventh-gen Accords with high mileage. I used my ACDP to back up the immobilizer data off the 39401-SDA cluster board, decoded the existing lock, pulled the worn wafers, and dropped in fresh ones. Cut a new key to match the repaired cylinder and confirmed the ID46 transponder registered clean.
His separate remote, the OUCG8D-380H-A, paired right back up with a standard lock-unlock-lock sequence.
I showed him the old wafers side by side with the new ones. He just held them in his palm and stared at the difference. Paper thin versus solid brass.
Ignition turns clean now. No wiggle, no force. And he kept every part that didn't actually need replacing.
