A college senior living near Bard Reservoir in Thousand Oaks called the Honda dealer first. They quoted him a service appointment plus a tow since the car wouldn't be drivable. After that I cut a new remote head key, part number 35118-SDA-A11, FCC ID OUCG8D-380H-A, and programmed the ID46 chip through OBD. The whole thing ran about 40 minutes.
The part that stuck with me was him holding both keys side by side. The old one split down the middle, chip visible, the circuit board cracked. The new one sitting clean in his hand. He kept turning it over like he was checking my work. Fair enough.
I showed him the hairline crack pattern on the old housing so he'd know what to watch for. These Honda remote heads get brittle after years of pocket carry and drops. He saved a good chunk versus the dealer route and never left the carport.
