Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2003 Honda Accord Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

The Oaks Mall area parking lot is one of those places where people get stuck and immediately feel like they're on a clock. Foot traffic, parking enforcement, the whole thing.

A woman had parked there to grab something quick and came back to a key that would lock and unlock the doors just fine but left the car cranking and not catching. She tried a few times. Then she stopped trying and called me.

When I got there she handed me the fob and said she'd just put a new battery in two weeks ago. The remote functions were working, so I believed her on that. The issue was on the transponder side. The chip wasn't communicating.

I plugged in at the OBD port under the dash and pulled up the immobilizer registration data. The key showed in memory but the signal read was inconsistent. I cleared it, re-enrolled the key, and confirmed the chip was responding cleanly before I even tried a start cycle.

She turned the key and it caught on the first try.

The whole job was done before the parking meter would have even needed a second quarter. She mentioned the dealer had been her first call and they'd told her to tow it in and plan on leaving it. For a programming correction, on a key that was already cut and in her hand, that was a hard sell. She paid a fraction of what they'd quoted, without a tow and without a waiting room.
