2007 Mazda 3 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near Rancho Tapo Community Park in Simi Valley, an Uber driver flagged me down from a frontage road pulloff. His 2007 Mazda 3 had a broken key stuck in the driver door lock. The blade snapped clean off from years of heavy use, left the head in his hand and the rest jammed in the cylinder.
He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the lock needed to be drilled out, new cylinder, new key, the whole deal. Destructive entry on a door lock that was working fine ten minutes earlier.
I started by pulling the transponder data off the broken key head with my VVDI2. The 4D-63 80-bit chip was still intact inside the plastic shell. Then I used my MAZ24 Lishi tool to grab the broken blade fragment out of the lock without scratching the wafer surfaces. Once the fragment was out, I decoded all the wafers in position and cut a fresh MAZ24 blade to the exact depths.
Transplanted the original chip into a new key shell, tested the immobilizer, engine fired right up. The lock cylinder went back to working like nothing happened.
No drilling. No new cylinder. No tow to the dealer. He was back picking up rides in about 40 minutes. The other locksmith's quote would have been triple what I charged and left him with a replaced lock he never needed replacing.
