Most of my calls in the Mandalay Beach area of Oxnard are driveways and parking lots. Then I get the ones that are not.
A farm manager working a property on the outskirts of Oxnard texted me a GPS pin. His 2025 Mazda 3 was sitting on a gravel access road between avocado rows, about 25 minutes from town. The fob had gone unresponsive, and when he tried the insert key as a backup, the door would not open manually. A previous owner had done something to the lock cylinder. I loaded up for his specific fob configuration and drove to the pin. When I got there, I decoded the lock on site using my Lishi, cut a fresh blade that actually worked in the cylinder, then connected through the OBD port to register the replacement fob to the vehicle. The whole job happened on that gravel road with trees on both sides.
Car started. He was back to work inside the hour.
He mentioned the dealer quote as I was packing up, almost as an aside. I told him I hear that a lot, and left it there.
