2012 Mazda 3 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A photographer staying out in Wood Ranch called me on a Tuesday night. She was in Simi Valley for a shoot, her only key was inside the car, and she had a location call early the next morning. The Mazda dealer told her two business days minimum, and that assumed they had the part in stock, which they weren't sure about.
She found me online and called around 8 PM.
I pulled up to the parking area where her 2012 Mazda 3 was sitting. The fob she described was a 4-button unit with the fold-out blade, the factory unit for this car. All-keys-locked-out on a smart key vehicle is a real job, not a quick slim-jim situation. You have to pick or decode the door, then connect through the OBD port to talk to the vehicle security system, register a new fob, and verify every function before you pack up.
I got the door open without a scratch, connected my programmer, and ran through the key registration. The system goes through a timed sequence, and you just let it finish. Once it accepted the new fob, I walked every button, tested the blade in the door lock, confirmed the car started, and checked that the original lost key was no longer registered.
The whole thing was done well under an hour, in her parking lot, that same night. She made her shoot. The dealer would have had her on a tow truck and a two-day wait. That comparison wasn't even the point of the job, it just happened to be the reality.
