Got a call one evening from a photographer staying in the Wood Ranch neighborhood in Simi Valley. She was out from the coast for a shoot the next morning and had locked her only smart key inside her 2012 Mazda 3.

I pulled the key code, cut the new blade on the van, then connected my IM508S through the OBD port. The 2012 Mazda 3 runs the Mitsubishi immobilizer system, so registration goes through the BCM directly. About fifteen minutes of programming, a walk-around to test all four buttons, lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and verify the engine start.
She held both keys side by side like she was making sure the spare was real.
The whole visit, door opening plus spare key, took under forty-five minutes. The dealer would have needed two days and a flatbed just to get started.
