Got a call from a guy out near Rocky Peak Trail in Simi Valley. He had a 2009 Mazda 3 i Touring he bought used about two years back with one key. One key that he finally lost somewhere between his apartment and the trailhead parking area.
He already called the Mazda dealer. They told him the car would need to be towed in, they'd need proof of ownership, and to plan on leaving it for the better part of a day. He said the quote made him put his phone down and just stare at it for a minute.
I drove out to the lot where the car was sitting. All-keys-lost job, so I started with my MAZ24 Lishi tool on the door lock, reading each wafer position one by one to decode the bitting. No original key needed. Once I had the code, I cut a fresh MAZ24 blade on my mobile machine and verified the depth on each cut.
Then the programming side. I connected through the OBD-II port using my diagnostic tool, accessed the immobilizer module, and registered the new 4D-63 80-bit transponder chip. The old lost key got erased from the system so it can't start the car if it turns up somewhere. Whole thing, door decode through final test drive, ran about 40 minutes.
He was back on the trail before lunch. Paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted and never had to get the car towed anywhere.
