2015 Mazda 3 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near Conejo Mountain Open Space in Camarillo. He ran a landscaping crew and was at the muffler shop on a break when his 2015 Mazda 3 decided the day was over. Smart key dead. "KEY IS NOT DETECTED" on the dash, doors wouldn't respond, nothing.
He had already tried holding the fob against the start button. That actually worked once, but then he shut the car off and it wouldn't repeat the trick. Battery in the WAZSKE13D01 was totally cooked. He said he bought the CR2025 at the dollar store a while back, which tracks.
I pulled the fob apart using the little release tab on the back. The CR2025 inside was corroded on one contact and reading under 2 volts. Swapped in a fresh Panasonic CR2025, cleaned both battery terminals in the fob housing, and snapped it back together.
Then the real test. Walk every function: lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Checked the push-button start from the driver seat, then from the passenger side to make sure the interior antennas were all reading. Walked ten feet from the car and hit lock. Clean chirp, mirrors folded.
He kept pressing the buttons like he was making sure it wasn't a trick.
The whole fix took about fifteen minutes on site. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him in time alone, let alone the bill.
