2007 Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Tierra Rejada Open Space in Moorpark, a woman with a 2007 CX-9 flagged me down on a Saturday. She was between errands, parked at a lot off the main road, and her only smart key had stopped starting the car that morning. Push the button, nothing. Dash just flashed "KEY IS NOT DETECTED" and sat there.
She had already called Mazda. They told her earliest appointment was Wednesday, and the fob might need to be ordered. So she'd been sitting on the idea of having the car towed and borrowing rides for four days.
I pulled up, connected through OBD, and ran diagnostics on the immobilizer module. The existing fob was still partially recognized by the proximity antennas but failing the rolling code exchange. I generated a new BGBX1T458SKE11A01 fob using my VVDI Key Tool, programmed the transponder to her VIN, and registered it to the immobilizer. Cut the emergency metal insert on site so she had a mechanical backup too.
Tested all four buttons. Lock, unlock, hatch, panic. Then push-button start, three cycles cold. Then walked every door handle to confirm proximity unlock was picking up the new fob at each antenna.
She watched the whole thing from about two feet away, arms crossed, like she was waiting for it to fail again. It didn't.
Took about 35 minutes. She drove home the same afternoon, no tow, no Wednesday appointment, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
