In Montecito, over in the Birnam Wood area, a woman ran a bakery with a 4:45 AM delivery route. Three restaurants counting on fresh bread before they opened. Her 2015 Mazda CX-9 was parked behind the shop with a smart key that had been losing range for weeks and finally quit altogether.

The CR2025 was dead and the battery contacts inside the NHY8-67-5RYA housing had a film of green corrosion on them. I cleaned the contacts, loaded a fresh CR2025, then programmed a new smart key. The SKE11A04 system has a timed security handshake during registration, about 10 to 20 minutes of waiting while the immobilizer cycles through its confirmation. Tested push-to-start, all four buttons, door handle proximity on both front doors, and the liftgate request switch.
She pulled out at 5:40. Three restaurants got their bread on time. The dealer was still three hours from opening their service bay.
