2015 Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Her bakery opens at 6am and the morning delivery run starts at 4:45. Her 2015 Mazda CX-9 was parked behind the bakery in Montecito's Upper Village with a dead fob and a load of fresh bread that needed to reach three restaurants before they opened for service.
The fob had been getting weaker for weeks. She'd noticed it working only when she held it close to the door handle. That morning, it stopped responding entirely. She called the Mazda dealer's emergency line. They told her to call back when service opened at 8. She called me at 4:30am.
I was there by 5. Got the door open, plugged into the OBD port, and pulled up the key registration system. The fob had a dead CR2025 and the contacts inside the housing had started to oxidize, which explained the weeks of short range before the full dropout. The vehicle's security system had stopped recognizing it altogether.
I swapped in a new fob, ran the registration sequence including the security pause the system builds in, and walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, and the remaining buttons. Then I confirmed push-to-start was reading the key correctly from the driver's seat.
She was on her delivery route by 5:40am. The dealer wasn't even open yet. All three restaurants got their bread on time because I keep parts stocked in the van and answer calls before sunrise.
